The number of people who have died due to extreme heat in South Korea this year has risen to 28.

Since the beginning of summer, the number of people who have died due to extreme heat in South Korea has increased. According to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) under the South Korean Ministry of Health, it was reported that 28 people have died from heatstroke since May 20, and 2,994 people have sought medical attention at hospitals. Additionally, it was reported that 997,000 livestock have perished due to the extreme heat.

Extreme heat will continue

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced that extreme heat will continue to affect many regions of South Korea, except for the eastern part of the country and Jeju Island, until August 29, stating that average temperature values will hover around 35 degrees Celsius. Officials reiterated the call to avoid outdoor activities between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM and warned to take precautions against heatstroke.

Temperatures reached 40 degrees

Since the beginning of summer, South Korea has been under the influence of temperatures exceeding seasonal norms, and the Korea Meteorological Administration announced on August 4 that the temperature reached 40 degrees in the city of Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province. This value was stated to be the highest temperature measured since August 4, 2018.
