The G7 Leaders Summit has started in the Puglia region of Italy. The leaders of the G7 countries, consisting of the world’s largest 7 economies, are coming together at Borgo Egnazia in the Puglia region, hosted by this year’s chair Italy. The summit, which started today and will last for 3 days, will address global issues on the agenda. Alongside the leaders of the USA, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, and the UK, the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen are participating. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also attend the summit upon Italy’s invitation. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the spiritual leader of Catholics Pope Francis, as well as the heads of state and government of Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, India, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritania, and Tunisia will be present at the summit. The G7 leaders, welcomed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, participated in a family photo shoot before the session. The first day of the summit will feature 3 sessions on Africa, the Middle East, and Ukraine. The second day will focus on migration, Indo-Pacific, economic security, artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean with the leaders of the invited countries. On the final day of the summit, leaders will hold a press conference. Support for Ukraine will be a top priority on the summit agenda. At the summit where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with the leaders, plans to utilize the income from frozen Russian assets in Western countries for supporting Ukraine, following Russia’s attacks starting in February 2022, will be discussed.
