Greece, Somalia, Pakistan, Panama, and Denmark were elected as the new temporary members of the UN Security Council through a vote at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. During the voting at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, the new temporary members of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term were elected. Denmark, receiving 184 votes, Panama with 183 votes, Pakistan with 182 votes, Greece with 182 votes, and Somalia with 179 votes became the new temporary members of the UN Security Council. These countries, which received two-thirds of the votes, will replace Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland and will serve between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026. In the UN Security Council, which has permanent members China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, there are 10 temporary members, with 5 of them being renewed annually through elections.
