In the second round of the presidential election held in Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, who received 83.75% of the votes according to unofficial results, was re-elected as the president. In the presidential elections held in Lithuania on May 12, as no candidate received more than 50% of the votes, the voting process in the second round started at 07:00 local time and ended at 20:00. While more than 50% of the ballot boxes were opened, according to unofficial results, Gitanas Nauseda, who received 83.75% of the votes, was re-elected as the president. Nauseda’s opponent, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, received 14.83% of the votes. Simonyte, accepting defeat, congratulated Nauseda who will lead Lithuania for a second term of 5 years. Among the priorities in Nauseda’s second term program was the expansion of a comprehensive support system for families. Nauseda argued that support for families should not only be limited to aid but should also be based on elements of appropriate housing policy and regulations in the labor market.
