Prosecutors, stating that former US President Donald Trump has violated the gag order imposed in the ‘hush money’ case four more times, have requested an additional fine to be imposed on Trump. The trial, where Trump is accused of making ‘hush money’ payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential elections, is ongoing at the Manhattan Criminal Court in New York.

Lawyer: ‘Not Hush Money, but Settlement Agreement’

During the trial, the statement of attorney Keith Davidson, representing Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, was also consulted. Davidson stated that the confidentiality agreement signed between Daniels and Trump is a ‘mutual settlement agreement’ and argued that labeling this payment as ‘hush money’ is not correct.

Prosecutors claim that Trump has violated the gag order, which he previously violated nine times, four more times and requested a fine of one thousand dollars for each violation. Trump’s lawyer, on the other hand, argued that the ‘hush money’ payment had elements of blackmail.

It has also been brought up during the court proceedings that Trump argues the gag order hinders his freedom of speech. It is stated that Trump could face up to 4 years in prison within the scope of the case.

Statement Expected from Digital Evidence Analyst

It is expected that tomorrow, the court will continue with the statement of digital evidence analyst Douglas Daus regarding the data obtained from the phone of Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen. The trial is drawing significant attention for being the first former US President to be tried in a criminal case in US history.
